Decoding Therapy Buzzwords

When I was thinking about the kind of content I wanted to share here, I knew I wanted it to feel both relatable and eye-opening. I hope you’ll find topics that connect with your own life, while also offering a glimpse into how others with different experiences might view the same ideas.

In the world of therapy and self-help, certain words can start to feel like buzzwords—familiar, but sometimes confusing. Terms like “boundaries,” “trauma-informed,” or “holding space” are everywhere these days, but what do they really mean in everyday life? Without clear definitions, even good intentions can lead to misunderstandings or frustration.

That’s why I started the Decoding Buzzwords series: to explore these concepts in a way that’s clear, thoughtful, and practical.

Many popular therapy terms have been stretched, politicized, or used in ways that drift from their original meaning. Mental health concepts don’t exist in a vacuum—they often carry important social and historical context. By revisiting them with openness and curiosity, we can move beyond the noise and have more honest, compassionate conversations about what it means to grow, heal, and connect.

If you’ve ever felt confused, annoyed, or even a little skeptical when you hear a therapy buzzword tossed around, you’re not alone. This series is an invitation to slow down, dig deeper, and consider what these terms might mean in your own life.
